Young Embroiderers
Young Embroiderers is the junior section of the Embroiderers Guild and is aimed at girls and boys aged 6 to 18. The Marlborough group meet six times a year during school holidays (10am-3pm) at Kennet Valley Hall, Lockeridge and the cost is £7.50 per child per meeting to cover the cost of hiring the hall, refreshments and materials. All the children need to bring is a packed lunch. At the moment we have fourteen young members, all with different levels of stitching experience.
he aim is to promote an interest in all kinds of textile skills, not just embroidery. A project pack is prepared for each session and although instructions are included these are for guidance and the children are encouraged to use their own ideas. Sewing machines are available for the older children to use, under supervision, this is especially helpful for those studying textiles for school exams.
There are several helpers at each meeting but if a child is under eight we do ask a parent/grandparent to stay for at least half of the session.
